Can a matter fall in love? hurt? fight?Â
At a first glance, the worlds of mind and scientific research seem far removed , but actually there are multiple relations between the two. One such relation is evident in the overlap of concepts and terms used in the scientific study of matter and the professional language describing the psyche, such as energy, balance, explosion and tension. This project deals with material relationships in the ceramic world and the potential benefit while comparing descriptions of emotional and material qualities. Combining two materials of different properties and melting them together in the heat of the kiln enables “self-design” of the material, one that seeks to free the energy stored within it, but might also end in “freezing” the tension, in cracking, or in joint movement. Applying various manipulations on ceramic materials to take them to the edge enables to learn how it “chooses” to cope and behave, serving as a live metaphor on human relations.Â
